Sarah by the River

Sarah by the River

The trail winds unfamiliar through dense woods on this sweltering afternoon. I came seeking solitude, escape from life's complications. When I reach the river, its cool promise draws me to the bank.

A woman approaches from downstream. "The water certainly looks inviting," she says, pausing beside me.

"Are you inviting?" I ask.

Her smile answers before her words. We find a shaded spot where the bank slopes gently into the current. She strips to her shirt and wades in, the fabric pressing against her body. I follow, gasping as the chill water shocks my overheated skin.
